WWII experience helped shape local vet’s life

Thurman Shope spent much of World War II lugging a mortar weapon around France. At 92, this member of the Greatest Generation is staying active by going to physical rehabilitation and activities like the Silver Sneakers fitness group in Dothan.

“His mom lived to be 100 and he had an aunt who was still walking around at 105,” son Mark Shope said. “He’s got a long bloodline.”
