Artists open homes to crowds for open studio tours

MORONGO BASIN — For the studio tours Saturday and Sunday, Gillyan Thorburn stocked the workspace she shares with Art Mortimer not only with their artwork, but also with brochures about other attractions in the Morongo Basin. Thorburn took a lesson from her experience at last year’s tours, when visitors asked her for restaurant recommendations and created a display of information on where to eat, stay and look for entertainment.

She also provided bottles of water to keep people hydrated as they traveled through the desert.
