Ottumwa Latham headed to state cross-country meet

CEDAR RAPIDS — Facing the toughest competition of the season with the big prize of a berth in the state cross-country meet on the line, Ottumwa sophomore Kylie Latham never wavered.

Latham did exactly what she has done several times this season to be successful, sticking close to the front of the field before making her move in the second half of the race. On Thursday, that strategy allowed Latham to earn a spot in the Class 4A girls state cross country meet as the Bulldog sophomore moved up seven spots in the final half-mile of the regional state qualifier in Cedar Rapids before finishing in 10th place in a time of 19:30, earning one of the top 15 individual tickets to state next Saturday, Oct. 31, in Fort Dodge.
