Holy Smokes Cook-off draws hungry crowd to Broomfield, nets $9,500

A crowd of 250 turned out Saturday in Broomfield to dine so that others will someday have dining rooms to call their own.

Flatirons Habitat for Humanity's 10th annual Holy Smokes Faith Builders Cook-off featured 10 teams from area churches and other organizations serving up their culinary creations, with the crowed voting for their favorite dish via dollars donated to the nonprofit. Flatirons Habitat for Humanity builds affordable, energy-efficient homes in partnership with families that qualify for the Habitat program. Each adult in a partner family provides 225 hours of "sweat equity," helping to build their home, which they purchase with a zero interest mortgage.
