- Platini is regarded as one of the greatest footballer of all time and was elected as the president of Union of European Football Association (UEFA) in 2007.
- He was born on June 21, 1955 in Joeuf, France to Aldo and Anna Platini. He has an older sister Martine. They are of Italian ancestry.
- He started his career as a junior with AS Joeuf in 1966 and attracted attention during the Coupe Gambardella tournament, a tournament for French U-19s football clubs. He was 16 years of age then.
- In the trials at FC Metz, he was diagnosed to have breathing difficulties and weak heart. He then joined his father’s club Nancy in September 1972 in the reserve team.
- In a match against Wittelsheim he scored a hat-trick for the reserve team of Nance made his claim for a place in the first eleven.
