6 Celebs Who Are Huge Fans of Poker
Las Vegas is a celebrity hotspot, and with so many casinos and poker tables available, it's no surprise that there's a range of A-listers who've managed to perfect their poker face. Even without the bankroll to fund their poker games or their celebrity status, some famous faces could have been famous as professional poker players if they weren't famous elsewhere. We've listed some celebrities who love playing poker.
Ben Affleck
Star of Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, Good Will Hunting and Gone Girl to name just a few of his major blockbusters, Ben Affleck certainly has what it takes to fund his poker hobby. Although he's denied concerns in the past that he actually has an addiction to the game, this doesn't stop the The Accountant star from cashing in as many chips as he can.
Michael Phelps
The most decorated Olympian of all time with a grand total of 28 medals, 23 of them gold; Michael Phelps is the world's most famous swimmer and has been a regular appearance at the Olympic Games and various other swimming competitions for the last seventeen years. Although he initially retired after the 2012 London Olympics, Phelps was back in action for the Rio Olympic Games last year. However, now that he's finally hung up his goggles for good, Phelps is hoping to spend more time engaging in another of his favourite hobbies - playing poker!
James Woods
Introduced most of the time with the tagline of 'actor and poker enthusiast', James Woods has enjoyed a successful TV and film career that has spanned over the past four decades. Appearing in blockbusters such as Jamesy Boy, Stuart Little 2 and The Way We Were, Woods is also well known for his role in Family Guy and has breathed life into a variety of much loved TV and movie characters over the years. Today, he has finally taken his lifelong hobby of playing poker and turned it into a way of life, travelling the circuit alongside full-time poker pros.
Aaron Paul
Known for his hugely successful role as Jesse in Netflix Original series Breaking Bad and his later role in Need for Speed, Aaron Paul isn't just an accomplished actor - he's also perfected his technique at the poker table. He joined football star Cristiano Ronaldo to really turn up the heat last August for a charity poker tournament, known as the PokerStars web series on YouTube.
Matt Damon
Known for his hugely successful roles in titles such as The Martian, Jason Bourne, Saving Private Ryan, The Rain Maker and We Bought a Zoo, when he isn't playing his part in creating the next big blockbuster, Matt Damon enjoys to spend his spare time playing poker. Last October, Damon teamed up with American football star Tom Brady to raise money for a range of charities by playing poker.
Jason Alexander
Better known for his roles in famous blockbusters such as Pretty Woman, Jacob's Ladder and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Jason Alexander has been a main player in Hollywood for the past few decades, and today is best known for his long-standing role as George Costanza in popular television series Seinfield. Speaking to the City Paper, Alexander has confirmed that he is a big fan of poker, although he isn't a fan of casinos where smoking is allowed, as he says that it affects his performance. Perhaps a poker app that he could use from home would be a better alternative for him!
