Cameron Jerrell Newton, an American football quarterback for the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League (NFL), became the first NFL quarterback to throw for 400 yards in his first game. Here are 30 facts about the footballer:

  1. Newton was born on May 11, 1989 in Atlanta, Georgia, to Cecil Newton Sr. and Jackie Newton. He has two brothers Cecil Newton and Caylin Newton.
  2. He attended ‘Westlake High School’ in Atlanta where he played for Westlake Lions high school football team.
  3. He was talented in basketball and baseball apart from football. He had to give-up baseball for fear of being hit by a pitch and basketball was too tricky.
  4. As a junior he passed for 2500 yards and made 23 touchdowns apart from 638 yards run for 9 touchdowns. He is called Superman due to his touchdown celebration.
  5. Newton was rated a five star prospect as a dual-threat quarterback by the sports News & Fan Interaction website ‘Rivals.com’ and was offered scholarship from seven universities.
  6. In 2007 he attended University of Florida and was the member of ‘Florida Gators Football’ team of 2007 & 2008. He was their back-up quarterback.
  7. On November 21, 2008, he was arrested on charges of burglary and obstruction of justice. He was accused of stealing a laptop computer. All charges were dropped after he completed a court approved pre-trial diversion program.
  8. In January 2009 he was transferred to ‘Brinn College, Brenham, Texas.’ The collage won the ‘2009 NJCAA National Football Championship’ with Newton being named Juco All-America number one quarterback.
