30 Unknown Facts About New Orleans Pelicans’ Anthony Davis

Anthony Marshon Davis Jr., a four-time NBA All-Star, is the youngest player to score 59 or more points in an NBA game. Here are some facts about the American professional basketball player:

  1. He was born Anthony Marshon Davis Jr. on March 11, 1993, in Chicago, Illinois, to Anthony Davis Sr. and Erainer. He has a twin sisters Antoinette and an older sister, Iesha. He stands 6 ft. 11 in tall, weighing 253 lbs.
  2. Although most people call him ‘AD,’ his family called him ‘Fat Man’ for his oversize. He was also called ‘Spider Man’ by his basketball coach at Kentucky, John Calipari, for his long limbs.
  3. He attended Perspective Charter School, Chicago, Illinois, which was known for its academic excellence than for sports. He went unnoticed playing in the Public League Blue-West, a league that receives almost no attention from the media or college scouts.
  4. Davis was known locally as ‘the little guy’ who shoots three from the corner in his junior days, came to limelight playing for the Meanstreets nationally in spring and summer.

  17. Davis was the fourth youngest player in the NBA history to achieve 40 PPG and 20 RPG, since 1993. He achieved this feat on March 16, 2014, when he scored a career high 40 points and career high 21 rebounds in a 121-120 win against the Boston Celtics.
  18. On December 02, 2014, he fell short by one assists and one block short of becoming the youngest NBA player to ever record a five-by-five. He recorded 25 PPG, 10 RPG, 4 APG, 6 SPG and 4 blocks per game against Oklahoma City Thunder.
  19. On February 06, 2015, Davis made a buzzer beater three pointer in a 116-113 win against Oklahoma City. He scored 41 points and 10 rebounds on the way to New Orleans record of 13th consecutive 20-point performance surpassing Pete Maravich’s effort of 1976-77.
  20. On March 15, 2015, in a game against Denver Nuggets, Davis became the first player in NBA history to tally 36 PPG, 14 RPG, 9 BPG and 7 Assists since 1973. He was named Western Conference Player of the Week from March 09-15.
  21. On April 15, in a must win game against San Antonio Spurs, he recorded 31 points with 13 rebounds and 3 blocks to take Pelicans into the 2015 Playoff for the first time since 2011. He led the league in players’ performance rating with 30.89.
  22. Although Pelicans lost the playoff series against Golden State Warriors, Davis averaged 31.5 points with 11 rebounds to become the first player in 40 years to record 30 PPG and 10 RPG in a player’s first playoff series. He also joined three others to record the feat in last 20 seasons.
  23. He was selected to All-NBA First Team for the first time in his career, to become the first player to make the first team in his first three seasons since Derrick Rose, in the 2010-11.
  24. In the beginning of the 2015 season he signed a contract extension worth $ 145 million, for five years. He recorded his career high and the franchise record of 59 points, superseding Jamal Mashburns’ 50 points set 13 years ago.
  25. On January 19, 2017, he was selected as a starter for the 2017 NBA All-Star Game, making it his fourth selection and second as a starter. He was also selected for NBA All-Star Weekend Skill Challenge.
  26. On February 19, 2017, playing for the NBA All-Star Game, he recorded 52 points with 10 rebounds, breaking Wilt Chamberlain’s record high of 42 points in 1962. He was adjusted Most Valuable Player of the game which was won by West 192-182.
  27. On March 31, 2017, in a game against Sacramento Kings, Davis scored 19 points and in the process he reached 2000 points in a season to become first Pelicans in the history to do so.
  28. On June 15, 2012, he signed with Arn Tellem and the Wasserman Media Group as his agents.
