Stanislas Wawrinka, famously known by the name "Stan," has three Grand Slam titles at the 2014 Australian Open, 2015 French Open and 2016 US Open to his name. Here are some very interesting facts about the Swiss tennis player:
- He was born Stanislas Wawrinka on March 28, 1985, in Lausanne, Switzerland, to a German father and Swiss mother. He is descendent of Czech and German ancestry and hold dual Swiss-German citizenship.
- In 2014, he requested the ATP for change in his name from Stanislas to Stan just for the convenience. He is officially going by the name Stan Wawrinka in the tournament draws and press conferences.
- He grew-up in his parent’s farm in the hamlet of Saint-Barthelemy near Lausanne, which is also home to 75 adults with learning disability.
- He is second of four children to Wolfram Wawrinka, a farmer and Isabelle,a biodynamic farmer. He has an elder brother Jonathan and two younger sisters, Djanaee and Naella.
- He was described by ‘The Economist’ as the ‘tennis’s great latecomer,’ due to finding success late in his career.
- Even as child, though he started playing tennis by the age of eight, he practiced only once a week until the age of eleven.
- Wawrinka started competing in the international junior events by the age of 14 and at 15, he dropped out of school to focus full time on tennis. He continued his education by distance learning program.

Dimitri Zavialoff, was his first coach from the age of eight until June 2010, when he replaced him with Peter Lundgren.
