  1.  She was born Garbine Muguruza Blanco on October 08, 1993, in Caracas, Venezuela, to Scarlet Blanco and Jose Antonio Muguruza. She has two older brothers named Asier and Igor.
  2.  Muguruza took to tennis at the age of three following her brothers’ footsteps. As tennis is not popular sport in Venezuela, the whole family moved to Spain in 1999, to pursue the tennis dream. She began training at the Bruguera Tennis Academy near Bracelona. She holds dual Spanish-Venezuelan nationality.
  3.  Her style of play is more suited to clay-court, with her ability to move and slide effectively. She has powerful groundstrokes and powerful serve that can reach a speed of 113 mph. However her high-risk game is also the cause for inconsistency due to unforced errors and double faults.
  4.  She didn’t play junior circuits except for Roland Garros juniors and some European tournaments. Instead her coach encouraged her to play the ITF circuit and play juniors sometimes to see your progress.
  5.  Muguruza made her first appearance in WTA qualifying in 2008 at Barcelona and lost in the first round to then 236 ranked Maria Kondratieva 7-5, 6-0.She went on to participate in ITF circuits and reached her first finals at ITF Antalya, Turkey, on May 2009.
  6.  She has been coached by Sam Sumyk since 2015, and has won both of her Grand Slams under his tutelage. Her Wimbledon win over Venus Williams in 2017 was history making, as she became the first player ever to defeat both the Williams sisters in a Grand Slam-final. She equaled the feat of Andrea Leand and Julie Coin as the fastest player to beat a Top 10 opponent in their second WTA main draw matches.
  9.  The 2012 United States Open served as the first Grand Slam main draw appearance for Muguruza, as she qualified after number of players withdrew without giving a selection of qualifying matches. She lost to 10 seed Sara Errani of Italy in three sets, 3-6, 7-6, 1-6, the eventual semi-finalist.
  10.  In March 2013, at the BNP Paribas Open, she qualified for the main draw and then made it to the round of 16, defeating the 17 seed Ekaterina Makarova and Magdalena Rybarikova. She eventually lost to Angelique Kerber in straight sets.

  19.  At the 2015 United States Open, she reached the second round for the first time however she lost to Johanna Konta of Great Britain, in three sets.   21.  Muguruza claimed her first major title when she defeated world No.1, Serena Williams in straight sets to win the 2016 French Open. She won 14 straight sets after losing the first she played for the title and to a career high ranking of No.2, as of June 06, 2016. She is also the first Spanish female player to win a major title since 1998.
  22.  She made it to the semifinals of 2017 Brisbane International before retiring due to injury and reached her first ever quarterfinal of the Australian Open, to start the 2017 season on a positive note only to face setback in the early rounds of Qatar Total Open and Dubai Championship.
