30 Little Known Facts About DeAndre Jordan You Probably Didn't Know

DeAndre Jordan, a three-time All-NBA and two-time NBA All-Defensive Team member, is currently playing for the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He currently holds the NBA record for best career field goal percentage at 67.4%. Here are some facts about the American professional basketball player:

  1.  He was born Hyland DeAndre Jordan Jr. on July 21, 1988, in Houston, Texas, as the eldest of three children to Kimberly and Hyland Jordan.
  2.  Jordan did his schooling from Episcopal High School, through his junior years and later shifted to Christian Life Center Academy, for his senior years.
  3.  At Christian Life Center, he averaged 26.1 points, 15.2 rebounds, and 8.1 blocks per game. He was a two time all-state selection and came up with a career high 37 points in a game and also set a record for most blocks in a game with 20.
  4.  The Rivals.com rated Jordan as the number 8 overall prospect, the number 2 center in the country and the number 1 ranked prep player in Texas.
  5.  In 2007, he represented United States Under-19 team at the World Championship held in Serbia. The team USA finished second with 8-1 record and Jordan had a play time of only 9 minutes per game.
  6.  Jordan joined Texas A & M University and as a freshman started in 21 of the 35 games he played. He averaged 20 minutes with 1.3 blocks per game.
  7.  He was prone to bouts of pounding and unpredictable play. He shot a team-high of 61.7 percent in field goals, but a team low of 43.7 percent in free throws. Most of his filed goals attempts were within a couple of feet of the basket.
  8.  Standing all of 7 feet the entire state of Texas expected Jordan to deliver great things to Texas A&M. He was OK but not a force, averaging 7.9 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game in his only year with the Aggies.
  9.  For his effort for the Aggies, he was named in the Big-12 All-Rookie Team and after the season he made himself available for the 2008 NBA Draft.

His weaknesses include ‘no productivity,’ ‘poor fundamentals,’ ‘mediocre footwork,’ and ‘high bust potential.’
  11.  On July 15, 2008, he was selected 35th overall pick in the second round of 2008 NBA Draft, by Los Angeles Clippers and was awarded jersey No. 9.
  12.  He made his starting line in the second half the season and recorded a career high 23 points against Los Angeles Lakers, on January 21, 2009. He also posted 10 dunks which had been accomplished by only two others players in the past 10 NBA season.
  13.  As a restricted free agent center Jordan, signed an offer letter with the Golden State Warrior for reportedly worth $43 million for four years period, on December 11, 2011.
  14.  However on December 12, 2011, he was persuaded to renew his contract with Clippers with a deal matching Warriors offer. In his third season with Clippers he averaged 7.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.78 blocks in 25.6 minutes of play time in 88 games in the previous season.
  15.  Jordan finished third in the NBA with 158 dunks and shot a team high 68.6 percent from field, the highest field goals percentage of any player in the NBA with over 300 field goal attempts.
  16.  He was fielded in all the 82 games in 2012-13, season and led the league in field goals percentage, shooting 64.3 percent. However his free throw percentage dropped from 52.5 to 38.6, the worst of his career.
  17.  Participated in the 2013 USA National Team minicamp. Played for the victories USA White Team in 2013 Showcase and recorded 10 points, a game-high 9 rebounds and 2 blocks in 23 minutes.
  18.  Against Dallas Mavericks on January 03, 2014, he recorded a career high 25 points with 18 rebounds to help Clippers win 119 to 112.At the end of 2013-14, season he led the league in rebounds with 13.6 rebounds per game.
  19.  On April 29, 2014, in the play-off game against Warriors, he became the first player with at least 25 points, 18 rebounds and four blocked shots in a playoff game since Tim Duncan in 2008. Clippers won 113 to 103.
  20.  Jordan led the way as the Clippers stopped a season-high four game losing streak, when they beat Dallas Mavericks by 115 to 98, on February 09, 2015. He recorded 22 points and a career-high 27 rebounds.
  21.  At the end of regular 2014-15, season he averaged 11.5 points with 15 rebounds. He became the fifth player in the NBA history to average at least 10 points, 15 rebounds, 1 steal and 2 blocks since in 1982-83,by Moses Malone.
  22.  After verbally agreeing to a four year max deal with the Dallas, he was pursued by Clippers to continue and signed a four year contract worth $88 million on July 08, 2015.
  23.  In the game against Warriors on November 04, 2015, he recorded 13 rebounds apart from 11 points with 2 blocks and in the process became the best rebounder in Clippers history. With career rebound of 4711 to his credit he surpassed Elton Brand’s 4,710.
  24.  Jordan was diagnosed with a mild case of pneumonia and missed the game against Miami Heat on January 13, 2016. With this came to an end the NBA longest active consecutive games played streak at 360.He last missed a game on March 23, 2001.
  25.  He is one of the more durable players known for his high percentage of field goals and one of the greatest defenders of all time. However he is a poor free throw shooter, making just 42 percent of his shot which is well exploited by opponents with Hack-a-Shaq strategy.
  26.  With the seventh win of the 2016-17, season against Portland Trail Blazers, he completed his 600th career game on November 09, and became one of the only three players in franchise history to do so. He later became the sole leader with 716th career game on January 26, 2018.
  27.  On January 14, 2017, he recorded a season high 24 points and 21 rebounds in a 113-97 win over Lakers and surpassed that mark against Timberwolves, with career-high 29 points on January 19.
  28.  On July 06, 2018, he signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks at roughly $24.1 million and later in January 31, 2019, Jordan was traded to the New York Knicks.
  29.  He was the member of 2016 United States Olympic Men’s Basketball Team, which won a gold medal at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He averaged 7.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, and team high 9 blocks in 17.1 minutes per game.
  30.  Jordan is a devote Christian and is best exemplified with all the tattoos on his chest, left arm, right arm and on his stomach.
