Bianca Andreescu, one of the remarkable players in the world, is the highest-ranked Canadian, with a career-high ranking of No. 4 in the world, in the history of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA). Her style of play that combines power with variety sets her apart from the other players, with commentators and journalists regarding it as “fun to watch.” She is known for making it extremely difficult to read her shots, as she rarely hits two shots in a row in the same way.   1.  She is the first Canadian tennis player to win a Grand Slam singles title, and the first to win the Canadian Open in 50 years.
  2.  She is also the first player to win a Grand Slam singles title as a teenager since Maria Sharapova in 2006.
  3.  She was the first player to win the girls' under-16 and under-18 titles in back-to-back years since Mary Joe Fernández in 1984 and 1985.
  4.  In the 2021 season, she went on to record three-set wins over Amanda Anisimova, Garbine Muguruza, Sara Sorribes Tormo, and Maria Sakkari.
  5.  Resulting in an ultimate clash with world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty in the final round. However, she had to retire down 3-6, 0-4.
  6.  Bianca Vanessa Andreescu was born on June 16, 2000 in Mississauga, Ontario to Nicu and Maria Andreescu.
  7.  Her family emigrated from Romania to Canada, when her father got a job offer in the country in the year 1994. Her father works as a mechanical engineer at an automotive company.
  8.  Her mother initially worked at a bank in Romania. When she was six years old, the family moved back to Romania, so that her mother could start a business in their home country.
  9.  However, they have closed the business after a period of two and a half years, and the family returned to Canada.
  10.  Following this, her mother started working as a chief compliance officer at a financial services company in Canada.

  12.  Bianca started playing tennis at the age of seven in Pitesti, Romania, where she was initially coached by Gabriel Hristache, a friend of her father.
  13.  After her family’s return to Canada, she trained at the Ontario Racquet Club in Mississauga before moving to the U14 National Training Centre in Toronto operated by Tennis Canada.
  14.  She achieved a career-high junior ranking of No. 3 in world in early 2016. She won her first titles in 2014, three in singles and one in doubles, at Grade 4 and Grade 5 tournaments, the two lowest levels.
  15.  As the top seed at the 2016 Australian Open in both singles and doubles, she had to withdraw from both events after two matches each because of recurring injuries involving her left adductor and right ankle, as well as a stress fracture in her foot.
  16.  With their 2016 French Open title, Andreescu and Carson Branstine became the first Canadian team to win a Grand Slam girls' doubles title.
  17.  She won her first ITF titles in singles and doubles at the August 2016 event in Gatineau, winning the doubles with junior rival Robillard-Millette.
  18.  Her best result at the 2018 higher-level events was a quarterfinal at the $100K Midland Tennis Classic, in which she reached the semifinals of the $60K Challenger de Granby.
  19.  However, she had to withdraw due to a back injury, which resulted in her staying out of the Canadian Open that season. She did not return to competition until late October.
  20.  After over 14 months break, she entered the 2019 season, which was also her breakthrough season. From rankings outside the top 100, she reached the upper echelon of women’s tennis.
  21.  She rose from No. 152 at the start of the year to No. 107 after the Auckland runner-up to No. 68 after the Australian Open and 125K title, a large enough ascent to become Canada's top-ranked player on the WTA Tour.

  23.  At the Premier Mandatory Indian Wells Open, she had a larger breakthrough, wining her first WTA title, after defeating four top 20 players in the last four rounds.
  24.  She became the first wild card women's singles champion in tournament history and was the first 18-year-old to win the event since Serena Williams in 1999.
  25.  Her rankings reached the top 25 level, but a right shoulder injury in the fourth round of the Miami Open, in which she defeated Angelique Kerber, kept her out of all, but one tournament until August 2019.
  26.  She had a 17- match win streak in the 2019 season, which ended with her loss to No. 4 Naomi Osaka in the quarterfinals of the China Open.
  27.  This also marked her first career loss against a top ten opponent. In the following WTA Finals, she had to withdraw after two losses to Simona Halep and Karolína Plíšková, due to a knee injury.
  28.  She tested positive for COVID-19 on April 25, 2021 and was forced to withdraw from the Madrid Open. She returned to the 2021 French Open as the sixth seed, but was upset in the first round by Tamara Zidanšek.
  29.  Seeded sixth at the 2021 US Open, she reached the fourth round but lost to Maria Sakkari in a three and a half hour battle. This led to her fall to No. 20 in the rankings.
  30.  At the end of the 2019 season, Andreescu was awarded the Lou Marsh Trophy as Canada's top athlete of the year. She was the first tennis player to win the award.
  31.  Her knee injury kept her out for the first few months of the 2020 season, and she was unable to defend her title at the Indian Wells Open. The next several months were cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic.
  32.  She returned to the 2021 Australian Open, for the first time in 15 months, since her run at the 2019 US Open. Though she opened with a three-set victory for Mihaela Buzarnescu, she was then upset by Hsieh Su-wei.
