County Watches Spending, Some Offices Over Budget

Ashley County will have to watch its spending and curtail extra expenses such as overtime, Justice of the Peace Corliss McCain, chairman of the county’s budget committee, told members of Ashley County Quorum Court during its regular meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 11.

As part of her budget committee report, Justice McCain told fellow quorum court members that the committee recommended against a series of proposed budget additions including additional funding for the public defender’s office, a request for $1,000 from the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission and $193,000 for a new county garbage truck. She also noted that the county lost $80,000 on a grant for work on Ashley Road 17 because the work was not done before the grant expired.
