Letter to the Editor: Taxes
After approving the multi-million new Aquatic Center, we are back to hearing the city needs more taxes. Why we are building an Aquatic Center to start with using tax payer dollars is beyond me. We will have to come up with additional funds to staff, maintain & other costs associated with it. âBecause Clarksville has oneâ, does not fly with me as a reason for building one. If it were a sustainable, feasible plan, private enterprise would be building it as they have with other water parks around the country. It seems to me we are paying for things that should be left to private enterprises, not to overtaxed citizens. Our streets and other things need money that will now be going for these waterparks, skateboard parks, Frisbee golf, ect. These should not be taxpayer supported. Itâs like the âTemporaryâ one cent sales tax. It has never gone away. When it is due to sunset, we always hear, âWell, we are used to paying that so letâs use it for something else. Sort of like the Federal Income tax that was made law in early 30âs that was only to be a 2 year tax in order to help get out of the Depression. Did you notice itâs still around after 83 years? Want to bet the city âTemporary Taxâ wonât last as long?
