FUSD selects name for its new school, which will open next year

The Fontana Unified School District Board of Education has selected a name for the district’s new Pre-International Baccalaureate/Dual Language Immersion school: Dolores Huerta International Academy.

Dolores Huerta, who was born in 1930 and grew up in Northern California, is a labor leader and civil rights activist who was an early member of the National Farmworkers Association, which ultimately became the National Farm Workers Association. She has received numerous awards for her community service and advocacy for workers’, immigrants’, and women’s rights, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the United States Presidential Eleanor Roosevelt Award for Human Rights.
