Yingge - a popular dance in China (PHOTOS)

Yingge has several names with the similar pronunciation in Chinese, such as "Yinge", "Yangge" and "Yingge". With a history of more than 300 years, it is popular in the two cities of Puning and Chaoyang in southeast China's Guangdong Province. There are mainly three different sizes of dance teams according to the numbers written in the Tale of the Waterside (also known as All Men Are Brothers or Outlaws of the Marsh): 36 members (Heavenly Gods), 72 members (Earthly Gods) and 108 members (Heroes of Liangshan Mountain). Each dancer uses clear facial makeup in the Chaozhou or Shantou style based on his imagination of how his hero looks in this famous novel, which is the most outstanding feature of Yingge.
