Halle Berry is an American actress, former fashion model and former beauty queen. One of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood, she is also a Revlon spokeswoman. Here are 50 interesting facts about this beautiful and talented actress.

  1. Halle was originally named Maria Halle Berry. Her parents, Jerome and Judith Berry, changed her name to Halle Maria Berry when she turned five years old.

  2. She was born on August 14, 1966, in Cleveland, Ohio.

  3. She is named after the grand old Halle Building in Cleveland, Ohio, which originally housed the Halle Brothers department store.

  4. Her father is African - American and her mother is Caucasian.

  5. Halle and her older sister, Heidi, spent the first few years of their childhood living in an inner-city neighborhood.

  6. In the early 1970s, Jerome Berry abandoned his wife and children, after which Judith moved her family to the predominantly white Cleveland suburb of Bedford.

  7. Halle Berry attended a nearly all-white public school, and as a result was subjected to discrimination at an early age. Her early bouts with racism greatly influenced her desire to excel.

  8. She was a cheerleader, a member of the Honor Society, president of her class, school newspaper editor and prom queen.

  9. After graduation, Halle enrolled at the Cuyahoga Community College and studied Broadcast Journalism for awhile until she dropped out.

After enduring a minor head injury, she claimed that she did not remember leaving the scene. As a result of her actions, she was placed on probation, given community service, and fined $13,500.

  23. In 2001 she starred in Swordfish alongside John Travolta. Although the movie did not do so well, she did receive a $500,000 bonus for showing off her breasts in a topless scene.

  24. She married jazz musician Eric Benét in 2001 but later divorced in 2005. Benét underwent treatment for sex addiction in 2002 while they were married.
