Haggen wants to close 100 more stores, abandon Southwest region entirely - OregonLive.com

The Haggen grocery chain, embroiled in Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, asked the court Thursday for permission to shutter 100 stores in addition to the 27 stores already closing.

If Haggen's request is approved, the grocer would close all its stores in California, Arizona and Nevada, abandoning its hopes of bringing "Northwest Fresh" to the Southwest. In addition, Haggen also wants to eliminate a bigger chunk of its Northwest operation, adding seven stores to the five already marked for closure in Oregon, and shutting down a total of 15 stores in Washington, where the grocer is headquartered.
