Meagan Standridge: Family feels special bond with special needs dog

After a long day of school and work, there’s noting like coming home to hear my kids giggling in the backyard. Running to meet me at the gate, all three are pushed out of the way by the family dog, Daphne.

An Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix, Daphne is one big ball of energy and the reason for many of those sweet giggles. My three children, Lilly, 10; Madeline, 6 and Hunter, 2, spend hours in the backyard with Daphne. There, the may play in the sand box or gather acorns under the shade tree. On this day, they had been playing ball.
