Panther harriers score wins at Waterworks Park

FAIRFIELD — The uniquely-scored Pekin cross-country invitational meet at Waterworks Park on Saturday left the Panther runners with plenty of hardware to take home. Not only did Pekin sweep the overall boys and girls team titles, but both teams picked up wins in different grade levels with the top senior girls runner (Gwynne Wright), junior boys (Ryan Millikin) and sophomore boys (Sam Roth) competitors.

The Panther girls edged out Davis County for the team title by eight points while also earning the senior girls division crown behind Wright's winning run of 19:14, 92 seconds ahead of teammate Taylor Lock. Albia finished third overall in girls team points, sharing the junior division title with Davis County thanks to a winning run by Jordan Winke, before winning the outright sophomore girls title with a one-two finish in that race from Erin Heaton (23:15) and Hannah Isley (23:17).
