New Zealand Marine Sanctuary Loved By Conservationists, Loathed By Fishing ... - Immortal News

New Zealand’s Prime Minister, John Key, announced on Monday at the United Nations General Assembly that the new Kermadec Ocean Sanctuary will be in place by October 1, 2016, as reported by The Huffington Post. The Kermadec Ocean Sanctuary will cover over 239,000 square miles, making it the third largest fully protected marine area in the world.

“The Kermadec Ocean Sanctuary will be one of the world’s largest and most significant fully protected areas, preserving important habitats for seabirds, whales and dolphins, endangered marine turtles and thousands of species of fish and other marine life,” Prime Minister Key says.
