New Powerball Rules Boost Odds, Prizes

LITTLE ROCK — Changes to the Powerball rules that take effect Sunday will give players a better overall chance of winning a prize and boost some prize amounts, Arkansas lottery officials said Thursday.

Under the new rules, players will choose their first five numbers from a set of 69 white balls instead of the current 59 and will choose the Powerball from a set of 26 red balls instead of the current 35, which will improve the overall odds of winning a prize from 1 in 31.8 to 1 in 24.9, according to a release from the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery.
