Caroline Wozniacki, a former world No. 1 in singles, has won 30 WTA singles titles, including six in 2010 and 2011. She is the first woman from a Scandinavian country to hold the top ranking position. Here are some very interesting facts about the Danish professional tennis player:
- She was born on July 11, 1990, in Odense, Denmark, to Anna and Piotr Wozniacki, the Polish immigrants. Her parents were professional athletes, with her mother representing Polish national volleyball team and her father played club football for ‘Boldklubben 1909’ in Denmark.
- In celebration of 50th anniversary of the Open Era in tennis, the ‘Tennis Magazine’ published 25 best players of those five decades. Wozniacki was placed as the 24th best female tennis player.
- On November 02, 2014, Wozniacki made her marathon debut at the New York City Marathon and completed it in a time of 3:26:33, which was good enough to qualify for the Boston Marathon.
- She started to play tennis from the age of seven but she received formal coaching only from the age of 14. Though her father was her primary coach, she received coaching from Sven Groeneveld, Thomas Hogstedt, and Michael Mortensen during different phase of her career.
- Wozniacki was the Denmark flag bearers at the opening ceremony of the 2016 Summer Olympics. In May 2018, she was appointed Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog by the Queen of Denmark.
