On March 25, 2020, dozens of Christian worshippers claim that the Virgin Mary has appeared in the sky and that she is protected them from the coronavirus. The alleged apparition was caught on camera around 5 pm in the city of San Carlos, in the northeastern Argentine province of Corrientes as a resident was able to take a picture. In the photo, it shows three shafts of white and blue light appear from the sky, the said colors are connected to the Virgin Mary.
Virgin Mary miracle
One of the residents of Corrientes said her daughter took the picture. She said that in the sky, a rainbow appears and then some drops started to create the figure of the Virgin Mary in the sky surrounding the sun. The local media immediately reported the incident, and some residents compared the said figure that they saw in the sky with the Virgin of Itati, the patron saint of the province of Corrientes.
Another resident, Susy Jimenez, claims that she saw the figure as the Virgin Mary and said that it was a miracle. She said that they are thankful that the Virgin Mary is protecting them, for interceding for God, and for her mercy for the people. Numerous reports also state that the figure was seen from the nearby town of Candelaria, San Carlos. The town is said to be one of the oldest Jesuit towns in the province.
The resident of Candelaria, Nancy Cervantes Saez said that there are a lot of stories circulating right now about the apparition. People are very sensitive and may just be asking for a bit of hope during these difficult times. The apparition came at the same time as the coronavirus pandemic deepens across South America and just as Argentina went on lockdown.
Coronavirus cases in Argentina
According to the UK Home Office, cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Argentina. The local government in Argentina has introduced numerous measures to help limit the spread of the virus in the country. On March 19, 2020, Argentina went on a nationwide quarantine to last from midnight to midnight on Tuesday, March 31. All are forced to stay at home and only one person per family can go out and purchase necessities such as food, medicine and more.
Other sightings
On Sept. 25, 1983, a woman said she began seeing visions of the Virgin Mary in San Nicolas De Los Arroyos, Argentina. The area where she saw the Virgin Mary is now a shrine, as thousands of people gather to pray. The area is now known as the Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary of San Nicolas.
The visionary, Gladys Motta, said that she began seeing the apparitions after she witnessed rosaries glowing in homes throughout the town. She began to pray to the Virgin Mary, who appeared to her carrying the infant Jesus and wearing a blue veil and gown. Since 1983, Motta says that the Virgin Mary visited her 1,800 times and she was visited by Jesus 68 times.
Rev. Hector Cardelli, who became a bishop in 2004, believed Gladys Motta. He spoke about the apparitions and he talked about Motta with Pope Francis, and the pope approved of the apparitions.
