The sports realm is incredibly diverse. People tend to identify with a specific game as most are intertwined with cultures. It is no secret, however, that some sports have recently become more popular than others, and one of these is basketball, specifically the NBA league.

What about the NBA makes it so popular to the point of being broadcast far and wide? Well, this field has had some of the most iconic players. These individuals have grown outside of the game and become global forces to reckon with partly due to their talent and impact worldwide.

Most Iconic NBA Players in History

The NBA has seen some of the most successful players of all time. Some have stood out more than others and become global sensations due to their exceptional talent. With that said, the list below contains some of the players who, in our opinion, hold the title of the best NBA players of all time.

Michael Jordan

Michael Jordan became a force to reckon with in the early 1990s. Some argue that he played a pivotal role in elevating the NBA to the popular sports it has become today. This is not just talk. He has the stats to prove it.

Michael Jordan took the Chicago Bulls to six series of NBA finals. That is not all - he was a six-time NBA champion and won the Finals MVP awards six times. Finally, he was declared the defensive player of the year in 1988. Michael has become a measure of success in NBA history, and so far, no one has been able to fill his shoes.

Lebron James

Lebron James is a household name in the world of NBA sports. He has one of the most remarkable achievements in NBA history. To have a better idea of just how good he is, he has not scored less than nine points in a game since 2007. Now that is impressive!

Lebron James is often put on the same pedestal as Michael Jordan, given these two are some of the best NBA players of all time. Apart from his achievements, he is also active in charity. He set up the Lebron James Family Foundation, raising money for several charities.

Kareem Abdul Jabbar

Kareem Abdul Jabbar, born Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor Jr., won 71 consecutive games while still in high school. He joined UCLA, where he led his team to win three consecutive NCAA games and earned the tournament MVP award all three times.

Kareem is known for his signature shot - the skyhook, which was an unblockable swing lob. He has won six MVP awards, and six championships, successfully taking his team to the finals ten times. Finally, he is active in charity, starting the Skyhook foundation in 2009.

Shaquille O'Neal

Known by his nickname Shaq, this is one of the most formidable players in the history of the NBA. He is more than seven feet tall and is almost 150kg in weight. After being drafted into the NBA while in his early 20s, he soon became one of the most dominant players in history.

Shaq has won several awards in his career, including the Finals Most Valuable Player Award and the NBA Most Valuable Player Award. He retired in his early 30s and has only gotten more popular since then. Apart from charity, he is also an actor, having gotten supporting roles in films such as Grown Ups 2 and Blended.

Kobe Bryant

Our list would not be complete without mentioning the iconic player Kobe Bryant. He played for 20 years, leading the Lakers to dominate the league. Also, he won four All-Star MVP awards in 2002, 2007, 2009, and 2011.

To commemorate his achievements, the commissioner for the NBA, Adam Silver, announced that the award would permanently be changed to the Kobe Bryant Trophy and unveiled a newly redesigned trophy. He was also actively involved in different kinds of charity work. His family founded the Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation in 2007.

Final Thoughts
