Full TextCoria Marie Brown, 74, of Crossett died Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at her residence. She was born on June 11, 1940, in Kellyville, OK, was a retired registered nurse and was a member of First Baptist Church. She had served in various capacities in her church, including Senior Choir director, Sunday School teacher and superintendent and Vacation Bible School director. She also enjoyed cooking and fishing.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, George Brown; one son, Norman Walker, Jr., of Houston, TX; three daughters, Rozena Walker of St. Paul, MN, Patricia Brown of Crossett and Joyce Brown-McDaniel and husband Tony of Little Rock; two brothers, Brady Battle and wife Dorothy of Detroit, MI, and Leonard Battle of Wichita, KS; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Pechola Battle; five brothers and six sisters.Funeral services were planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, at First Baptist Church on Martin Luther King, Jr., Drive with Rev. Curtis Jackson officiating. Pallbearers were to be Roy Curtis, Bryan Miles, Jesse Cook, Larry Dawson, Paul Weems and Marcus McDaniel. Carpenter, Sr., 90 of Hamburg died on Friday, January 30, 2015, at the Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. A resident of Hamburg for 80 years and of Russellville for the past 10 years, he was an active deacon, Sunday School teacher, and choir member at First Baptist Church in Hamburg. He served as a youth Sunday School teacher with his wife, Corene, for many years. Later, he taught the senior men in the Carl Locke Sunday School class. He continued his ministry through membership and work with Gideons International as a witness and speaker in churches. Mr. Carpenter and his brother Charles cleared land and built the screen for the Sunset Drive In, later selling it to their brother, Robert A. He and Charles opened Home Supply on the north side of the Hamburg square and later moved the business to the south side of the square changing the name of the business to Carpenter's Fine Furniture. He was a salesman who prided himself in delivering furniture to many states. He was also an active Hamburg Chamber of Commerce member and former president and an U. S. Army Air Corps veteran who served during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Polly Riley Carpenter of Russellville; two sons, Jack H. Carpenter, Jr., and wife Camille of Houston, AR, and Ben Choate Carpenter and wife Debbie of Hamburg, a daughter, Lisa Atkins of Hamburg; three stepdaughters, Lynn Tyner and husband Bobby, Beth Swindle and husband Mike, all of Conway, and Susie Gotcher and husband Dickey of Louisville, KY; six grandchildren, Jackson Carpenter, III, of Little Rock, Lori Davidson and husband Paul of Dallas, Texas, Jonathan Carpenter and wife Kim of Wylie, Texas, Benjamin Carpenter and wife Erin of Madisonville, Tennessee, Dr. Justin Atkins and wife Natalie of Little Rock and Allyson Tullos and husband Steven of Lake Village; 11 great-grandchildren, Noah, Saylor, Gabriel, and Atticus Davidson, Jackson Henry Carpenter, IV, Jayden Tullos, Ben Tyler and Emma Kate Carpenter, Heidi Corene, Eisley Snow, and Micah Ryan Carpenter; two sisters-in-law, Imogene Noble Carpenter of Hamburg and Marjorie Ott of Searcy and a brother-in-law, Milton R. Barrett and wife Glenna of Little Rock. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 60 years, Corene Choate Carpenter, in 2005, his parents, Charles F. Carpenter and Lydia Linder Carpenter; and two brothers, Robert Allen and Charles Francis Carpenter.Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Monday, February 2, at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Pennington officiating. Burial was in the Hamburg Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jackson Henry Carpenter, III, Dr. Jonathan Carpenter, Drew Carpenter, Robert Allen Carpenter, Steven Tullos, Benjamin Carpenter, Jim Atkins and Paul Davidson. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Lanier, Roy Vaden, David Carpenter, Art McCants, Jim Atkins, David Nutter and the Carl Locke Men's Sunday School Class.
