Golfers scale mountain in extreme challenge

YUCCA VALLEY — Hacking, sliding, scrambling and hiking their way down the San Bernardino Mountains, 22 extreme golfers took part in a 56-year tradition Saturday: the Pioneer Pass Golf Challenge.

Clubs in hand, the adventurers teed off at 5:30 a.m. at Hawk’s Landing, playing a single hole before driving up Highway 18 for the extreme portion of the tournament.
