FreedomPop Launches In The UK With Free Mobile Plan - Android Headlines - Android News

If you are not familiar with it, FreedomPop is a virtual mobile carrier that offers free voice, text and data for its customers. As reported previously, the company has just launched in its first international market, bringing to the UK its free plan. Of course you won’t be able to watch the entire Netflix catalogue with it, as the free tier is targeted at people that use very little data when away from a Wi-Fi network, only using it for sending messages, checking emails and casual browsing. In the U.S., the plan offers 500 MB, 200 minutes of calls and 500 text messages with no payment, and if you want more than that, there are paid plans to cover your needs. The company also offers unlimited access to several Wi-Fi hotspots across the country for $5/month.

In the UK, FreedomPop is offering a 200 MB, 200 minutes and 200 text messages plan for free. If this is not enough, £9 per month will give you 1000 minutes, 1000 texts and 1 GB of data, and for £12, you get 2 GB of data and unlimited calls and texts. If you exceed your usage, the company offers additional data for 1.5 pence per MB on the free tariff and 1 pence per MB on either paid plan. If you are interested in the £9 plan, the first 10,000 sign-ups will get it for free in the first month. The company offers some other nice features: all calls are actually VoIP ones, made through FreedomPop’s app. The advantage is that you can add virtual numbers from other countries (for £1.99 each per month), so friends and family will be able to call you paying only their local rates. Users will also be able to earn free data by completing tasks, such as taking surveys and download coupons. There’s also a “data sharing” feature where subscribers can give and receive unused data to and from others.
