We're a long way from the days of Taxi Driver.
Writer/director Nancy Meyers’ latest dramedy The Intern (** out of four; rated PG-13; opens Friday nationwide) posits a left-field concept — a senior citizen being hired as an intern for an e-commerce fashion company — and spirals out of control from there, only keeping somewhat on the tracks thanks to the A-list acting talent involved. Robert De Niro entering office space to the tune of All About That Bass is legitimately the most absurd thing he's done on film in forever — at least since asking about milking a cat in Meet the Parents — yet it also happens to be the most realistic scene of the relentlessly fluffy Intern.
