County turns juvenile detention over to non-profit

The Cullman County Commission has decided to turn over operations of its juvenile detention program to a local non-profit, leaving eight employees with an uncertain future.

The commission voted this week to enter into an agreement with the Cullman County Partnership for Children, Inc. to take over its juvenile detention program. Beginning October 1, the county will instead appropriate $100,000 to the group to manage short-term incarceration of juvenile suspects charged with crimes.
