Searches during assemblies part of anti-drug effort

RANBURNE — As students filed into Ranburne High School’s gymnasium Tuesday morning for an assembly, Oxford and Heflin police officers along with Cleburne County deputies prepared to search the school with three drug-sniffing police dogs.

School and law enforcement officials say the use of the searches at schools help keep drugs out of the hands of children, but not everyone agrees with using the dogs as a tool in random searches.
