The Arkansas State Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts held its annual retreat in Russellville Sept. 20-21. The group visited Norman Hall Gallery at Arkansas Tech University, Gallery 307, the Lemley House Art Guild, Todd Sweeden’s historic home and the River Valley Arts Center. Members who attended are from Russellville, Bella Vista, Warren, Fayetteville, Fort Smith, Little Rock, Conway, Pine Bluff, Monticello, El Dorado, Ozark, Hot Springs and Vicksburg. This nonprofit volunteer organization supports and promotes the contributions women artists have made in the state and their impact on society. Advocacy for Arkansas women artists is organized into three ongoing programs: paid internships for educational development, paid scholarships to support new creative work and juried art exhibits.
